What do I need to do to prepare my cat for the surgery?

  • DO NOT feed your cat after 10:00 p.m. the night before the surgery. They can have water as normal.
  • Your cat must arrive in a secure cat carrier. No wire crates, soft-sided, or cardboard carriers allowed.
  • If multiple cats, each cat must be in their own, individual carrier.
  • An e-collar will be provided for each of your cats.

What times are drop off and pick up?

  • Drop off is between 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. the day of surgery.
  • Pickup is approximately 3:00 p.m. the same day, and the clinic will contact you if your cat is ready sooner.

If you are going to be late or will miss your appointment, PLEASE let us know. Your appointment fee is non-refundable.

How do I need to care for my cat after surgery?

  • Be sure to follow all post-operative instructions provided by clinic staff.
  • Your cat can have a small amount of food when they get home, if they want it. You can resume normal feeding that evening.
  • Your cat receives a pain medication injection with the surgery that will last up to 36 hours. You will not need to administer any medications at home.
  • Any sutures used are absorbable and will not need to be removed.
  • Your cat may be drowsy for the following 12-24 hours. Use caution when they are around other pets in the household, going up/down stairs, etc.
  • Restrict your cat’s activity for 7-10 days after the surgery. This includes running, jumping, and rough play.
  • Keep the incision clean and dry.
  • Monitor the surgery site throughout the healing process. Contact the clinic if you see any redness, swelling, discharge, or opening of the incision.
