Volunteer Opportunities & Details

Help at one of our Adoption Centers

Our two adoption centers, located in Vista and Oceanside, house many of our felines as they wait to find their forever families. Our team of incredible volunteers helps pamper our furry friends during their stay with LYFF. Duties include daily care, feeding, litter box cleanup, general center upkeep, and (everybody’s favorite) playtime and cat cuddles. These are generally weekly commitments ranging from 2-3 hours per week. Weekday, weekend, morning, evening, and mid-day shifts are available.

Hour Requirements

  • Monthly average: 10 volunteer hours
    • Weekly and bi-weekly opportunities are available.

Youth Volunteers:

  • 18 years or older: Can volunteer solo.
  • 16-17 year olds: Two trainings and two shifts must be completed with the designated parent/guardian participating in the volunteer activities. Once those are completed, 16-17 year olds can attend volunteer hours solo and the parent no longer needs to attend.
  • 12-15 year olds: Two trainings and ALL shifts must be completed with the designated parent/guardian present when the youth is onsite. The parent must participate in the volunteer activities.
  • Under 12 years old: Due to liability, unfortunately we are unable to accept volunteers under 12 for on-site volunteer activities, though they are welcome to support other activities, such as special projects. Please contact LYFF for more information.

Volunteer during weekend Cuddle Hours

Our volunteer greeters welcome visitors who want to spend time with the felines at our Vista Adoption Center on Saturdays and Sundays. Duties include welcoming guests to the cat lounge, checking them in, answering general questions, monitoring interactions, and assisting with adoptions.

Help at adoption events

If you love outreach and happy beginnings, join us at weekend adoption events and help us send lucky kitties off to their new forever homes. This is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity with lots of smiles all around!

Transport cats and kittens

Our transporters use their own vehicles to transport cats and kittens from local shelters to LYFF’s foster program coordinators, to pick up donations and bring them to designated drop off points, or to transport cats from local shelters to approved barn homes. Transporters literally save lives, because transport is often the most difficult part of coordinating a rescue.

Support special projects

We often have special behind-the-scenes projects that we need help with. You are encouraged to put your skills to work helping to save lives today.

Write grant applications

We are always looking for experienced grant writers to help us continue to fund our lifesaving projects.

Create social media posts

Social media is one of today’s most powerful resources. We can always use help with networking and new ideas (we’re specifically looking for a talented individual to assist with our TikTok). #sharingpostssaveslives

Make phone calls/Do data entry

If you have an interest in helping with returning calls—answering basic questions, reviewing adoption applications, or processing barn cat applications—complete the application below—or give us a call.

If you have a knack for data entry (we use Google Sheets among other databases), we’d love for you to join our team of keyboard masters.

Help with community outreach and special events

Are you good with the community? Are you a people-person? We are always looking for cat lovers to join our outreach team as they work to inspire people to get involved, donate, and help save more lives. We often participate in special outreach events such as local festivals (e.g., the Vista Strawberry Festival, POPCats, etc.), and we would love to attend more if we can build an outgoing team of individuals ready to help expand our reach.

Feed feral cats

Did you know we feed hundreds of feral colony cats every day in San Diego and surrounding areas? If you also love your feral felines, we would welcome you to our team of devoted feeders.

Become a coordinator

Do you like leading a team? Do you love cats? We need help coordinating our different programs. Join us!
